**Halex® GT Herbicide**
Halex® GT Herbicide, developed by Syngenta Crop Protection, LLC (EPA Registration Number: 100-1282), is a post-emergence herbicide specifically formulated for use in glyphosate-tolerant (GT) corn. It combines three active ingredients to provide both contact and residual control of a broad spectrum of grass and broadleaf weeds.
**Key Features:**
- **Triple Active Ingredients:** Halex GT contains S-metolachlor (20.5%), glyphosate (20.5%), and mesotrione (2.05%), offering three distinct modes of action to effectively manage herbicide-resistant weeds.
- **Broad-Spectrum Control:** Effectively controls over 90 broadleaf and grass weeds, including common and giant ragweed, waterhemp, lambsquarters, pigweeds, and foxtails.
- **Residual Activity:** Provides 3 to 4 weeks of residual control, suppressing newly emerging susceptible weeds through root and shoot absorption.
- **Application Flexibility:** Can be applied post-emergence from corn emergence up to 30 inches tall or the 8-leaf stage, whichever is more restrictive.
- **Convenience:** Offers the ease of glyphosate with the added benefit of residual control, simplifying weed management programs.
**Usage Recommendations:**
- **Application Rates:** Apply Halex GT at rates ranging from 3.6 to 4.0 pints per acre, depending on weed pressure and target species.
- **Adjuvants:** The addition of a non-ionic surfactant (NIS) at 0.25% v/v is recommended. Ammonium sulfate (AMS) at 17 lb/100 gal may also be added to enhance performance.
- **Tank Mixing:** For enhanced control of hard-to-control weeds or in areas with heavy weed pressure, the addition of 0.25 to 0.5 lb/acre of atrazine may be beneficial.
**Safety and Handling:**
- **Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):** Handlers should wear coveralls over short-sleeved shirts and short pants, chemical-resistant gloves made of barrier laminate, butyl rubber, nitrile rubber, neoprene rubber, natural rubber, polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), or Viton™, chemical-resistant footwear plus socks, and chemical-resistant headgear for overhead exposure.
- **Restricted Entry Interval (REI):** Observe a 24-hour REI following application, during which entry to treated areas should be restricted.
- **Environmental Precautions:** To protect the crop's yield potential, apply Halex GT before the start of the critical period of weed control.
*Note:* Always read and follow the product label instructions and adhere to state and local regulations. Consult with local agricultural extension services or crop advisors for guidance tailored to your specific region and cropping system.
